CHAPTER 5: THE HEINOUS PRINCESS MEETS HER "YOUNGER BROTHER"
Translated by Eunie
Edited/Proofread by Para I felt disheartened. Today was the appointed day for Stayle, my little brother, to arrive at the palace, and life seemed to be progressing just like the game. I honestly panicked when Father notified me about my adoptive little brother. I did try to reject the offer of having a little brother since I'm only eight, and it was too sudden. But it seemed like, for the heir to the throne, it was tradition to choose a younger boy from the commoners to be adopted into the Royal Family after getting the latter's approval. Even though I'm only eight, it was already established that I would be the heir to the throne. That's why it became a lot more urgent for me to take in a younger brother. Well, even though they called it having a younger brother, it's more like having a close aide and a future regent. After being told about that, there was nothing I could say anymore. But from what I see, rather than being a younger brother, he would be close to something like a personal advisor or manservant. To be the Royal Family's manservant, one must have a special ability and an excellent one at that. It seems to have been long decided that he must also be a boy of younger age. The reason for this was to avoid assassination attempts or a coup d'etat, even if they were given a position in the Royal Family. Thus one of the conditions that must be met is that the candidate cannot change their gender or age. "Stayle..." I sighed after I softly muttered the name of the person who'll become my little brother. In the game, he was also like an older brother to the heroine, Tiara. I'm sure he's already scarred. Just because of a royal decree, he was forcefully separated from his beloved mother. Stayle Royale Ivy. Read only on eunietl.weebly.com At an early age, he lost his father to a grave illness. And from then on, he was single-handedly raised by his mother from a commoner family. Including himself and everything else he touches, he can teleport to any place he likes. His ability is considered rare, something like flash movement or teleportation. Pryde used his longing for his mother to her advantage and entrapped him. From what was supposed to be a subordination contract, she bound him with an enslavement contract instead, and he became Pryde's slave, unable to defy her orders. Of course, the current me had no plans of actually doing that... But it didn't change the fact that, in the depths of his heart, he harboured doubts and uncertainties on whether we'll actually listen to him, who is only a commoner and a child, even though he'll be taken in by the Royal Family. Though it was probably learning about the existence of her little sister and losing her father that irked Pryde, bringing out her inner demons. That's why when she saw Stayle being consumed by intense hatred, she found great joy in seeing him fall into despair and the pleasure of seeing others drown in an endless sea of pain. That's why after that, she did something irreversible to Stayle. While having thoughts like that, I heard the voice of my maid, Lotte, telling me that Stayle had arrived and Father wanted to introduce us to each other. "Pryde, from now on, he'll be your younger brother. He's a year younger than you and is currently seven-years-old. From here on, he'll be your advisor...and in the future, someone who will be the regent. Even though he's a commoner, he has a teleportation ability, and it can be considered an extraordinary ability. Make sure to get along well with each other. After Father said that, I stared at the little boy introduced to me, and as expected, he looked exactly like the Stayle I know from the game. Beautiful black eyes and hair, snow-white skin, and a high nose bridge. Right now, he's still young, so he looks quite lovely. But in the future, he will become a cool-looking glasses guy and will definitely be an intelligent character...though right now, he's not wearing any glasses. But rather than focusing on the glasses, I couldn't help but pull away a bit as I was reminded of how those eyes of his will be filled with a dangerous glint ten years into the future. Read only on eunietl.weebly.com It seems his clothes were prepared by the palace to at least meet the standard dress code, but it made the handcuffs on his wrists a lot more conspicuous. His gaze was directed down at the floor, and the glum look on his face made him look like a criminal. They still left him some space by making the chains longer to make it more comfortable for him, but even a child knows that the materials used for those handcuffs aren't like those made out of jewels or common materials. "Ah, is it these handcuffs? I know you feel sorry for him, but...it's only going to be for a while since he kept on teleporting to run away. He injured some of the knights, and all sorts of things happened…. So even though we reached an understanding, this is only a precaution to prevent him from disappearing again. We'll be sealing his ability in the meantime." And then, as Father patted my head, he added, "Tomorrow, the both of you will be signing a subordination contract, so after that, we'll immediately remove the handcuffs." Based on the morals from my previous life, I thought this was a cruel but necessary step. To ensure the chosen advisor couldn't betray the heir to the throne, it was vital to bind them with a subordination contract. It's an agreement that only exists in this country and was created for the use of people with special abilities. By binding themselves to the contents of the contract, they can never go against the other party for the rest of their lives. Though the subordination contract's purpose was only to prevent the other from betraying their master, and it limits the distance that they can be separated from the latter. But the Pryde in the game made Stayle sign an enslavement contract. Aside from the fact that the latter can never betray the former, he will never be able to deny her or her commands. It is an extremely strong binding contract, and it was also Pryde who took it out from her late father's study and tricked Stayle into signing it by saying, "If you sign this, I'll let you see your mother." When it came to contracts, most people preferred a reliable binding contract, and it would be impossible to rewrite the contents of the subordination agreement. Stayle, who came from a commoner family, didn't know how to write or read aside from his name. It wasn't until after he signed his name on the enslavement contract that he realised the horror of what he had done. Read only on eunietl.weebly.com But I have absolutely no plans of doing anything like that!! I took a step forward towards Stayle, who had been looking down for a while now. And I held those handcuffed hands of his. "My name is Pryde Royale Ivy. I'm happy to finally be able to meet you, Stayle. Since we're going to become a family, let's get along, okay?" I told him as I smiled. Stayle looked up and was taken by surprise by what I did...and then he looked down once again and muttered, "yes…." Hmm?? Why am I getting deja vu vibes…? I could feel my smile stiffen as I slowly took a step away from Stayle. That's right, there was a scene just like this in the game. In the flashback shown about the young Stayle, the young Pryde approached him with a gentle smile and acted just like a kind and gentle mother to entice him into signing the enslavement contract!! I knew it. It's going to be the same fate as the one from the game…. I could feel myself drowning in despair as I took another step back away from Stayle when suddenly I heard my father's voice, and he said, "You might be feeling tired right now. So in preparation for tomorrow, let's have you rest for now." After saying that, he left and brought Stayle to his room. Speaking of...this time it was Father who introduced Stayle, but back in the game, it was my father's aid who introduced him... whoever that person is. I feel like something happened with that aid around the time when Father was still alive...? Even though I tried to look through my memories with Father, I still couldn't remember that person. Since whenever Father visited, he came alone, and I could probably count on one hand the times I actually met him. ...Or rather, I should be more worried about Stayle!! Instead of pondering over my hazy memories, it's better to think of what will happen, so I ran after Father and Stayle. It will be problematic if I don't even know where his room is!! Read only on eunietl.weebly.com Father immediately found out that I was following them, so he at least told me where he's currently staying. It seems like he's only one floor below my room, and after that, I was told that it is better to leave him alone for now, and then he called for Lotte and Marie and had me return to my room. But that's no good!! I should talk with Stayle before we sign the subordinate agreement tomorrow!! If I remember it correctly, it was the night before the actual day of signing the agreement when Pryde set him up, and if this is going to be just like the game, then there should be a chance for the two of them to talk with each other! After escorting me back to my room, I waited for a while before Lotte and the others left the room before leaving. Then, after telling the guards that I'll be stepping out of my room to meet with Father for a bit, they let me go. Though it's not really Father who I planned on seeing, or rather, my destination is his study. Even the Pryde in the game was able to stealthily go inside, and well, won't things work out just fine with the guards? After thinking that, I was able to get inside a lot easier than I thought. I immediately went around and grabbed the things I needed, placed them in my pocket, and went out of the study before any patrolling guards passed by. I immediately returned to my room and took a breather. Now all I have to do is meet with Stayle. I don't know why but this chapter is hard to tl. it feels too REPETITIVE with the whole agreement thing. So I thought, maybe i should stop since i finally caught up with the manga but i was in the middle of reading...i mean working on chapter 6 and gosh!! PRYDE IN THE GAME IS >.....< MY TEAR DUCTS ARE GETTING WEAK OR THE STRAIN IN MY EYES IS AT FAULT.
